How to plan and do a project

Try        Kentucky Virtual library .  It sets out steps in the research process very well.

Or,

Step 1 : Define the task

What do I need to do for this project?

What kind of information do I need for the project?

Step 2 : How and where will I find information?

What are possible sources of information? (Books, Encyclopedias, Atlas, Internet? Etc.)

Which will be best for this project?

Step 3 : Find sources and locate information inside sources

Where is each source? (Use library catalogue, reference section?)

Where is the information inside the source?  (Use indexes, table of contents, guide words)

Do I need help to find the information in the sources?

Step 4 : Use the information

What information in each source is useful for my topic?

How shall I take note? (Note cards, draw pictures, mind-maps etc.) I need to record bibliographic details of sources I use.

Step 5: Put information together

How will I organize the information from different sources? (Subject headings, mind-maps etc.)

How should I present the information? (Booklet, essay, speech, report)

Step 6 : Evaluate the project

How effective is my finished project?  How will I know I have done my best? (Neat, complete, well organized, checked spelling and grammar, bibliography complete)

What have I learned about solving information problems by doing this project?

Did I do what I was supposed to do in step 1?
